During the 1990's the graves at St Peters Cemetery were exhumed to make way for a supermarket parking lot. The dead were reburied in a mass grave on site and a Cenotaph erected.

Alfred married Mary Elizabeth Beeming, daughter of Thomas Beeming and Sarah, on 1902 Feb 11 in Claremont, Western Cape, South Africa. The cause of her death was Influenza (Spanish flue).

Alfred next married Ida Louisa Gordon, daughter of David Gordon and Ester, on 1919 Jul 2 in Mowbray, Western Cape, South Africa. The cause of her death was complications during an operation for an Ectopic Pregnacy.

Alfred next married Christina Willamien Klein (Stienie), daughter of Johann Gottlieb Heinrich Klein and Elizabeth Johanna Elzabe Thuysma, in 1920.
